Head of the Academic Platform: Mgr. Miroslav Michela, Ph.D.
The research platform focuses on presenting cultural history in teaching and research at our institute. Our goal is to develop and promote cultural-historical approaches and methods in the study and teaching of historical phenomena.
In terms of chronological scope, the members of the platform cover medieval, early modern, modern, and contemporary history. The platform deals with both the Czech and Central European regions and issues on a pan-European scale and generally places strong emphasis on interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological approaches. Our research focuses on various topics related to the study of contemporary cultural practices and ideas, identification, and cultural transfers. We are interested in how people in the past thought, what they believed, and what meanings they attributed to cultural phenomena in their environment. We build on the traditions of new cultural history, as well as related approaches from fields such as anthropology, art history, and literary studies.
From a methodological point of view, we emphasize interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches, as well as comparative and case studies. Our platform brings together members within the newly established Department of History, while also deepening research cooperation with other academic and non-academic institutions at home and abroad.
