The Platform of Czech and Central European History is an organizational unit of the Institute of History of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, which continues the ancient and continuous tradition of teaching Czech and Central European history at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, which was implemented and guaranteed by the Institute of Czech History of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University until 2025. The platform ensures professional, content and organizational coordination of the teaching of this history within the institute and organizationally guarantees the entrance and state final examinations of the master’s and doctoral study programs Czech History in the European Context, as well as the representation of Czech history within the bachelor’s degree program, including state final examinations, and also teacher training studies. The platform’s activities also include the systematic management of students’ qualification theses (bachelor’s, diploma and dissertation) in given thematic areas.
The mission of the platform is to further develop basic and applied research in Czech history from the early Middle Ages to the end of the 20th century, with special emphasis on the issues of politics, statehood, the development of political, administrative and judicial institutions and constitutionality. It brings together academics whose research and teaching focus is on topics from Czech history in the Central European context, including the history of elites, everyday life, federal activities and a number of other phenomena. The platform initiates, coordinates and implements research projects focused on political culture, diplomatic and military history and long-term social transformations of the state and supports the involvement of students in these research activities. Its members participate in the development of international cooperation of the entire department of the Institute of History.
